Another tea from the 2016 summer release, DAVIDsTEA Caramel Corn. To be fair, it is going to take an amazing tea to replace my love of Cotton Candy from the same collection (and yay for Purolator finally delivering my 500g of Cotton Candy!). It is sweet yet not too sweet and is amazing hot or cold but he really wanted Caramel Corn and people told me it tasted like Movie Night. Spoiler Alert – it has some similarities but is no Movie Night tea.
DAVIDsTEA Caramel Corn (Boardwalk 2016) Ingredients & Steeping Instructions
Ingredients: Apple, cinnamon, pineapple (pineapple, sugar, citric acid), caramel (milk, sugar, glucose syrup, butter fat, sorbitol, mono and diglycerides), currants (currants, vegetable oil), almonds, beetroot, coconut (coconut, sugar), popcorn (popcorn, sugar), natural flavouring
Again with the apple? DAVIDsTEA really do love their apple. I am not sure if it has natural and artificial flavouring as I already got rid of the bag and their website cuts off the ingredients and doesn’t have a working nutrition label image to double check.
Steeping Instructions: The usual 1-2 perfect spoons (a perfect spoon is around 2.5tsp) per 16 oz near boiling (194℉ – 203℉ or 90℃ – 95℃) water for 4-7 minutes. If making a latte, use the same amount of tea with 10 oz water.
The larger pieces in DAVIDsTEA Caramel Corn tea made it hard to measure using perfect spoons since the chunk of cinnamon basically filled the spoon. I used a 20g sample bag for two lattes and steeped for 6 minutes. The first thing he notices is that it is pink. No big surprise since it contains beetroot and Forever Nuts is pink but it dampened his enthusiasm for it since “it is meant to look caramel coloured”. Not really sure where he got that but anyway.
While not terrible, this isn’t one either of us would buy again. I am not sure if he is just hung up on the pink but it didn’t taste caramel corn enough for him while I just found it way too sweet. No big surprise that Caramel Corn would be sweet, just not my kinda cup of tea. The apple is definitely there and the cinnamon was a bit overpowering. While I definitely tasted caramel corn despite his claims that my not having any in years means I don’t actually know what it tastes like to say if the taste is there.
