As mentioned in my round up of days 1-6 of THEFACESHOP beauty advent calendar, day two brought me a bottle of nail polish.  THEFACESHOP Trendy Nails in PK03.  While they do have some more expensive polishes, this is one of the basic original polishes from the Trendy Nails line and they cost around $3 in THEFACESHOP stores.  Sadly, they do not have the whole collection online to browse.

As you know, I am not a fan of pink nail polishes, especially hot pink.  I may have been singing “I’m a Barbie girl” while swatching this one.  As pinks go, it is not bad.  It is almost opaque in one coat, I left my index finger with one coat in the swatch above to show that while you see a little nail line. You could probably get away with it, especially with a thicker single coat.  The other fingers have two coats but no top coat.

In case you have not worked it out, the PK in PK03 stands for pink, (YL for yellow, GLI for glitter etc).  So you will never have to wonder if a colour is pink or purple but nail polishes need names!

I don’t find pink particularly Christmassy for an advent calendar, so I attempted to make pink a little more festive.

I started with a gradient of Trendy Nails PK03, Essence Who Am I? (a light pink transition colour) and Pure Ice Beware (silver),  Trying to keep it affordable with some cheaper nail polishes in the same price range as THEFACESHOP’s Trendy Nails.

Glisten and Glow Ctrl Alt Delete Latex Barrier Needed For PK03 Nail Art

Don’t be like me and skip on protecting your skin.  I was comfy and couldn’t be bothered to get up and get my bottle of Glisten & Glow Ctrl-Alt-Delete latex barrier.  I made a huge mess of my cuticles and skin and had to use acetone to clean it up.

Use a non latex makeup sponge to sponge on the three colours, with Trendy Nails PK03 by the cuticle and silver glitter at the tips.  Then top with a glossy fast dry top coat.  Since I was keeping this affordable, I went with Essence The Gel top coat.

While this looked cute, it was not Christmassy enough… So snowflakes, because snowflakes make everything better.  Except going outside, because I will never get used to Canadian winters.  It should only snow on Christmas Day.

I waited about ten minutes until my nails were dry enough to stamp and instead of using stamping polishes, went with the same polishes as I used for the gradient.  Keeping this low cost!  The Essence polish was too thin to stamp, so I traded it up for Essence Wild White Ways.

I stamped each of the nails with the snowflakes from my my MoYou Festive stamp plate and Messy Mansion stamper.  I was actually surprised how well the Trendy Nails PK03 stamped, you can clearly see it over the silver glitter.  The Pure Ice Beware did not lift well but added some extra sparkle to the nails.  The Essence polish has decent opacity for stamping, but some areas did not lift well, I have white stamping polishes worse than it though, so it is an affordable alternative.

Top with even more top coat and you are done.  Unless like me, you skipped on protecting your fingers and need to clean up with acetone…
