I wear a lot of dark clothes and while I love black nail polishes, they often look too much like I am going for an emo/vamp look with my pale skin. As a result I try to find the most wearable black polishes I can or pair them with nail art to make them look less black.
For nail polish colours I do not wear often, I tend to go for decent but budget options but black nail polish is very obvious when it chips so it is definitely an exception. I look for a good quality black nail polish with a little oompf to make my black nails less obvious.
Essence has a new gel black nail polish which is shiny enough to wear alone, but like most blacks, it shows every imperfection in your nail. A matte top-coat can help give it a different look. A little sparkle can go a long way and Zoya does black the best in my opinion.
Zoya Storm and Dahlia Black Nail Polish
Zoya Storm
Zoya Storm is full coverage, holiday black nail polish with a high concentration of micro fine diamond holographic glitter. It goes on smooth in two coats and removes easily – no glitter removal needed.
While any black nail polish will show chips, the holo in Zoya’s Storm means that the edges of your polish don’t look as bad if they are not perfect and is a lot more forgiving to look at. I remember when I received Storm, I had a nail salon appointment that day and despite them not using Zoya polishes, I asked her to apply it and so many people commented on the beautiful holo sparkle.
Zoya Dahlia – Pixie Dust
I adore Zoya’s PixieDust nail polishes. There once was a time when I was all about smooth nail polishes but PixieDust changed that. I am still not a huge fan of chunky glitter, but the textured microglitter of PixieDust is so forgiving and that is important with black nail polish.
All of the PixieDust polishes I have tried apply in two coats and are fairly easy to work with. Zoya’s Dahlia PixieDust is a black matte sugared texture polish with silver microglitter. This is the one black polish I can wear without worrying about my pale skin making it look vampire-ish and it doesn’t chip easily!

Storm looks gorgeous! Think I’ll need to add this to my stash of polishes!
That whole holo collection is gorgeous. Blaze is a deep red with the same holo shimmer and Aurora is a beautiful purple. It also included a gold foil, a green and an effect top coat that I skipped then ended up buying the green later!
I LOVE that Zoya Storm collection and have had them on my wishlist for ages but I have so much polish. A pixie dust type polish is a great idea for avoiding chipping, I have a few zoya pixie dusts (including Dalila) and I love them so much!
You can never have too much polish (especially Zoya)
haha so after this i went looking in my stash and realized i have a LA Girl dupe of Storm and that’s why I hadn’t bought it…but so pretty!
Both of those Zoya polishes are now officially on my wishlist. They are absolutely gorgeous.
Love how awesome black nail polish looks on you! I could never pull that shade off!

It is surprisingly wearable, most blacks look too goth-like but these seem more wearable for some reason.
I love the look with the glitter topcoat – it really makes it look wearable on a daily basis!
It is actually in the black polish, not a top coat 🙂
These are all beautiful, but that Zoya Storm makes my heart flutter! 🙂
Everyone should own Storm!
