Always wanted longer nails but don’t want the upkeep of acrylics or gel? Sensationail Gelvolution nails offer week long wear with comfort technology. That means you can actually wear them all week without feeling them pinching. I tried out the “Silver Drops” design 72323, a black stiletto/ballerina shaped nail with silver glitter accents.
These were on sale for around $12 at my local Rexall store. You get 28 nails in 14 sizes so they should fit all nails. Unlike many press on type nails, these did actually fit my nails quite well. The package includes Perfect Bond glue, a nail file and buffer and an orange stick to push your cuticles back.
Application Tips – Sensationail Gelvolution Nails
I did need to file my nails down a little so my squared tips did not show at the edges of the nails. My nail beds are fairly long though so may not be an issue for most. They have a nice glossy finish and the silver has some larger loose glitter around the edges making it look more natural.
To apply, find the nails that work best for all nails before starting. Push back your nails and lightly buff your nails. I personally used my own lighter buffer rather than the file that came with the package. Then wash your hands and dry them well. You don’t want anything under the nail once glued on, it can encourage bacteria or yeast to grow.
Then place a drop of glue on the back of the Sensationail Gelvolution nail and another on your own nail. I like to place the drop close to the cuticle line on the Gelvolution nails and near the tip on my own nail so I don’t worry about glue being too high and spilling onto the visible tip of the nail. Or even worse, the tip glued to my finger!
There are plenty of sizes to choose from and they fit my nails well. If you want to find the matching nails, check the back of the tip for the sizes. They have numbers, including half sizes printed on the tips. I have the smallest and largest sizes left over.
Wear Time for Sensationail Gelvolution Nails
The Sensationail Gelvolution nails are meant to be worn close to the cuticle so they can grow out for the 7 days without being too noticeable. My pointer finger is not as rounded as my other cuticles so I gently filed the edge of that nail. The full gel nail is black so it is not noticeable unlike some that are white when filed.
The comfort technology includes them being slightly thinner at the cuticle line which looks more natural when wearing, even after a little growtth. They don’t recommend wearing them for more than a week. I removed mine after 5 days with just a tiny visible cuticle line. The gel shine finish lasted the whole time – even with Jazzy chewing on my nails, which he does all too often.
One did pop off after 3 days on my thumb. I guess I did not use enough glue as it didn’t leave any damage from pulling away from the nail so I simply glued it back on and it lasted until I removed them.
Removal of Sensationail Gelvolution Nails
Do not try to pop them off your nails. You will damage your nails. Sensationail Gelvolution nails are meant to be soaked off like a gel manicure. Use an acetone based polish remover and soak the nails until they dissolve and easily wipe off the nail. I used 100% acetone and it took about 15 minutes to dissolve the nail.
After five minutes, they had bubbled and the top coat was peeling off. You can either place your nails in a bowl of acetone or soak a piece of cotton pad, place over the nail and wrap the tips in foil (or nail clips/caps if you own them). Sensationail also sell removal kits meant for their gel polish that can be used to remove these too.
