I am still on a chocolate tea kick and this Belgian Chocolate Rooibos from Wild Heather Tea Co is delicious. Part of my healthier eating for 2016 means I am switching up chocolate or hot chocolate for chocolate teas. While this is not as chocolatey as DAVIDsTEA’s Hot Chocolate tea, it has a smooth flavour and the rooibos mixes perfectly.
Wild Heather’s Belgian Chocolate Rooibos is made from loose leaf tea, rooibos, herbal, calendula petals and cocoa beans. Wild Heather is a local company, based in Hamilton, and I was lucky enough to taste a sample of this at a craft fair before Christmas and had to buy a bag right away.
There are quite a few Belgian Chocolate Rooibos options out there and while the loose tea in most seem quite similar, I found this one smoother and more velvety tasting than others I have tried in the past. Some of the other chocolate rooibos options are also minty and as he hates mint, it was nice to find one without peppermint so we can both enjoy a cup.
As you can see, it has a deep red colour and is not fudgy looking from melted chocolate like some others. It has a light chocolatey taste that becomes deeper as it cools so it would probably make a great iced tea. While light, it is still obvious through the rooibos flavour which is sweet and slightly earthy and a great contrast in flavour.
