Part of the #CBBNov challenge is a prompt for poppies. The prompt was for yesterday, but it feels right posting it today. I originally tried to stamp a poppy-like design onto my nails. I didn’t have a perfect stamp so the closest I had was this image from the Pueen Nature Lover 02 plate.
Close to poppy looking but not perfect. Plus, the way the stamp is designed, there isn’t a lot of space for a background so I ended up stamping black over Rimmel’s Hot Gossip.
Recreate My Poppy Nail Art
So I decided to freehand and go for a more abstract poppy since my freehand skills are severely lacking. Keeping it simple with just basic colours, a small brush and dotting tool. Here is how to recreate my look:
Polishes used:
- Essence Enter Wonderland (base colour)
- Zoya Posh Matte (poppies)
- Maybelline Color Show Tenacious Teal (poppy stems)
- Essence Black is Back (centre of poppies)
Using just a small brush to dab on a rough poppy shape using Zoya Posh, leaving the edges rough looking then add a stem using Tenacious Teal and dot some black in the centre. Fairly easy if you don’t need that perfect poppy shape.
Since it was a mix of matte and glossy polishes, I then added a glossy top coat to seal it all in. I find glossy to be a bit more forgiving on the look of a freehand image.
If you want to join in with the #CBBNov challenge, here are the prompts. There is lots of time left in the challenge. Catch up with makeup or nails inspired by plaid, wine and poppies. Then join us starting next week for some easy prompts including stamping, purple, leaves, stripes and green!
Wow! These are so nice and look realljy professional! I wanna try this out now haha
