The final of the holographic polishes from Revlon’s HoloChrome collection is Hologasm. A grey-silver scattered holographic polish you can buy at the drug store. Like the rest of the collection, the holo is not as strong as you will find in some indies, but it is great that one of the bigger brands is bringing holographic and multichrome finishes to the drug store. If you missed it, I already reviews the other holographic polishes Fairy Dust, Unicornicopia and Galactic Pink. Check back for the chromes!
Like the other holographic polishes in the HoloChromes collection, Hologasm needs three coats for full opacity. You can probably get away with using a very thin coat as a topper, but it does have a grey base so will dull your chosen base shade. This silver-grey scattered holo polish is also free from Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, DBP, Camphor and Toluene.
As I mentioned in my reviews of the others in the collection, your opinion of these holographic polishes will depend a lot on whether you usually buy indie polishes where you are likely to have more unique holos. But for someone who wants to shop in store, I am impressed with Revlon bringing a collection to the drug store. Despite wearing indie polish a fair amount, a number of people asked me about my nails while wearing this, and it was nice to be able to say “go buy it at Shoppers/Rexall”. I find that people’s eyes tend to glaze over when I say they have to buy it online or join a facebook group to get a certain shade.
Swatches of Revlon Hologasm (Holographic) Polish
Revlon Hologasm – Swatch in natural sunlight
and a close up showing Hologasm in full scattered holo glory
Swatch of Revlon Hologasm in artificial light
and a closeup, almost no holo noticeable in artificial lighting
Hologasm is very light dependent, as are most holographic polishes. It appears a shiny silver in artificial light with some iridescent shimmer to a darker medium grey with holographic shimmer in sunlight. As mentioned, it did need three coats for full opacity, but has a decent and quick drying formula. I know others had issues with this collection chipping but had no issues personally when using a sticky base coat.
