Compared to my very blah Birchbox, I was quite impressed with my Ipsy Glambag for October 2015. While it was a little heavy on the moisturizers with a face serum and lotion, it included a nail polish which always cheers me up, The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes lip colour and an eyeliner.
Starting with Dose Pill nail polish in Stormy. I have a full review of Dose Stormy here. I find it a little strange that ipsy would send something that you can not buy, as the link to buy Dose Pills has none on the site and they have been replaced by a newer polish. The colour is great though, just not a fan of the pill format. It definitely has some cute factor but is a pain to hold while painting your nails.
This Skone Pretty Eyes eyeliner in Plum is more purple than plum, but pretty for people who wear colours like that. As I have mentioned before, I am not huge into purple on my eyes. I know the colour is meant to make my eye colour pop but I always end up looking like I have a black eye. The liner itself is very fine so no thick lines and applies evenly and is fairly soft – because you know I hate stabby eye products!
I expected Nourish Argan Face Serum to be thicker, it spurted out as soon as I removed the foil seal from the tube and it runs freely when you are trying to get just a little. I tried this before my reaction to the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré in my Birchbox and it was a lifesaver in helping heal my burnt skin. This Nourish face serum has argan oil to hydrate and replenish, apricot kernel oil to restore and often and rosehip oil to smooth the skin’s texture.
It is always nice to get products from decent brands like The Balm compared to the unknowns and ipsy/birchbox exclusive brands but in general, my lips and matte lip colours are not the best of friends. I received Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Committed a pink toned beige nude matte liquid lipstick and it has made me love The Balm even more. It has a vanilla-mint tingle/scent and is not drying on me at all. I intend to pick them up in full size in Charming and Adoring as well as Committed.
BWC fragrance free lotion includes shea butter, jojoba, kukui nut oil and aloe vera. It was decent, but nothing special to make me replace my current moisturizer. I will definitely use the rest of the generous sized sample though.
Ipsy doesn’t list prices on their pages, and I am too lazy to check, but since I will use the nail polish, lip colour and face serum, I am happy with the value of this glambag. The bag itself was black on one side and gold on the other, not one I will likely use again.
