December’s Birchbox was a bit of a letdown after a great ipsy glambag. Overall, this Birchbox was more of a what not to buy for me. I don’t really like doing negative reviews, and wish I could find something better to say about these. Some are decent, just there are better products out there for the price while others just are not suited to my skin/hair. On to the reviews:
Obliphica Seaberry Hair Serum
Another case of Birchbox not paying attention to user profiles. Sometimes I wonder why we even fill them out as the products just seem randomly picked. I have long super thick hair so maybe I didn’t like this because it is meant for fine to medium hair but the scent is all this has going for it. It is meant to be light-weight and non oily, but made my hair really oily. A big thumbs down from me, but other people seem to like it. Maybe if you have less hair, the oil is not as bad?
Dr Jart Ceramidin Liquid
Thankfully I did not breakout like many people who received Dr.Jart+ SkinSaver Ceramidin Liquid in their boxes. This is supposed to pack a powerful dose of moisture, but like most of the others, I just found it to be a sticky mess. I ended up washing it off so it could not do the job of moisturizing, but I wouldn’t leave the tacky goop on my face normally so not something I would repurchase.
The Balm Hot Mama Shadow/Blush
In fairness, I actually love The Balm’s Hot Mama in summer when I am not ghostly pale, but it is not a winter colour for me. I have complained about this before with Birchbox, I love that I get a sample from the Balm almost every month, but these tiny blush samples are useless as you can’t get a blush brush into them and waste a lot of product on the cardboard packaging.
amika: Perk Up Dry Shampoo
This is a decent dry shampoo, a great scent and doesn’t leave dandruff looking white residue in my dark hair. I am sticking to CoLab and Batiste though, they work just as well for a lower price and better availability locally. Cute packaging though.
Coastal Scents Style Eyes
Finally, the Sample Choice product of the month. I chose Glamour Eyes, a beautiful green and gold sampler. I was impressed with my last Coastal Scents sample but while these swatched decently, they didn’t look as good on the eye and the green had some major fallout. The gold is a decent colour for blending other shadows though.
