Who wants to spend money on liquid nail barrier when you can spend it on nail polish right? I recently got a bottle of Born Pretty Store’s Odor Free Latex Cuticle Guard. It is shade #9 if you want the same one, it is a light slightly lilac-y pink. At just $2.99 it is a lot cheaper than the Girly Bits one I have been using recently.
The bottle is 10ml compared to the $8 I paid for my recent bottle of Border Patrol. It does come with a rectangle shaped lid which easily removes to leave a regular brush handle to use.
The brush itself is a good size. Small enough to be fairly precise around the nail but large enough to cover your fingers if doing a water marble or really messy gradient. As promised, there is no noticeable scent with this cuticle guard. I sniffed my other two liquid latex products and while Border Patrol has a slight glue scent, the other one has a fairly strong smell. If you are sensitive to fragrances or general scents, this may be perfect for you.
Born Pretty Store Cuticle Guard Formula
Reading other reviews, I expected this to be a really thin formula. Similar to Ctrl-Alt-Del from Glisten & Glow which I love but is not available at the moment. Since Nail Polish Canada have said they are not stocking it due to freezing in winter, I think that may have been the case with my Born Pretty Cuticle Guard as it arrived on a cold day and spent 2 months in Customs – who knows if they keep parcels warm.
Although it still applied, and still works fine. It did not have that smooth formula I am used to. Not like when it is just old and really chunky from drying whenever the bottle is open. The chunks were still wet and not rolled up latex. So you may want to order this in warmer months when others do not seem to have the same issue.
Despite the formula issues, it still protected my cuticles really well against this metallic gradient. I might try a different colour next time as this is really close to my skin-tone and hard to see if you are dabbing polish where there isn’t liquid latex. It still removed fairly easily, not in one piece like some given the possibly frozen formula but no issues.
