While I love a good holo polish, they can get expensive, especially when you want various colours so when I saw Essence had a new holo top coat at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, I had to have it.

Essence Let The Stars Rain Down On Me is from the nail art collection and has Shake Me! I’m Pretty on the front of the bottle, but at least in Canada, there only seems to be one type.  It is a scattered holo effect top coat and when it says shake me, it means it.  The holo glitter is all at the bottom of the bottle and it seems like a grey-ish liquid polish until shaken.  Now, everything we have been taught as polish addict tells you DO NOT SHAKE YOUR BOTTLES OF POLISH!  Thankfully, this is fairly liquid and doesn’t suffer from bubbles but I tend to shake it, give it a while to settle any bubbles, then roll it.

Shown with two coats of Essence Let The Stars Rain Down on Me! over Essence We Love Winter Holidays! (which just shows that someone needs to take the exclamation point away from Essence’s polish namers) you can see the various shifting of the colours in the holo glitter.  In shade, it is much more muted, but in the sun, you really see the shift through all colours of the rainbow.

I would love to see one that has a more concentrated holo effect, as the scattered glitter in Essence’s Let The Stars Rain Down On Me! is fairly sparse.  I do like that it is the bigger bottles, as cute as the small shaped bottles are, I find the round larger ones easier to hold in my bottle hug for easier application.

The base liquid is thin and this helps apply the holo effect top coat easily without too much extra liquid which was nice as some top coats are in a thick top coat like polish and you end up with a lot of layers of polish.

Essence Let The Stars Rain Down On Me over Essie Starry Starry Night

Essence Let The Stars Rain Down On Me! works over almost any colour, but looks amazing over darker colours like black, navy or a deep purple (and of course the forest green shown) or lighter grey toned colours.  I wore it over Zoya Lake (a pale blue) and got so many compliments).  It also looks amazing over other glitter polishes to give them some more depth and colour.  Shown above over Essie’s Starry Starry Night Revival as an accent nail, the blue glitter in the essie polish really brings out the colours in the holo top coat.

  1. This is so pretty! I might have to look for this – I don’t often want to wear holo polishes so I can’t justify buying them, but this looks like a good way to get the effect without having a bajillion unused polishes.
