Paint it Pretty Polish Light in the Dark Swatches

Each month, Paint it Pretty Polish releases a polish of the month. This one was actually a custom requested by Streets Ahead Style that she agreed to have available to others. Light in the Dark is an opal finish polish with hints of tourmaline colouring to represent both October birthstones. It has a shifting shimmer and colour shifting crystal chameleon flakies.

It is a sheer base so you do need to layer this one on. My swatches are shown with three coats sponged on. Topped with Seche Vite top coat to smooth any texture from sponging and flakies.

Since it needed three coats sponged (likely 4 if you brush it on), I decided to try it over a white creme undie polish. It really brought out the shifting flakes and you still get a hint of the opalescent finish, but it is not as beautiful. This will probably make an amazing base for winter manicures though. It would probably look better over a slightly creamier white or a crelly to keep the same look.

The base looks pretty white in the bottle but does actually transform darker colours quite a bit. The chocolate brown for example is a gorgeous plummy purple using Paint it Pretty Polish Light in the Dark as a topper. The red glitter became much more pink.

• Coats required:  3 coats sponged on for full opacity, probably 4 if I used the brush. Less visible nail lines could probably get away with three.
• Dry time:  Good but do allow it to dry between coats to minimize bald spots, especially as it will be thicker at full opacity
