Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara – The One With The Bendable Wand!

Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara - Review

So, a $38 mascara with a bendable wand?  Can Givenchy’s Noir Interdit mascara live up to the hype and actually get all of those lashes?  Is it worth $38? Don’t get me wrong, I will splurge on something that works for my lashes but with a short shelf life, $38 is high for mascara.

Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara - Review

I hate my lashes.  They are not super long.  They don’t hold a curl well.  Plus I am really fussy about mascara.  I don’t like to feel it on my lashes.  Some make your lashes so stuck together, sticky or heavy.  So I will admit that I am pretty loyal to my current two mascaras because I know they work for me.  Every Christmas I get the mascara sampler from Shoppers Drug Mart because it usually has Smashbox Full Exposure.  So I get samples of a bunch and can still pick up my fave full size using the coupon.  Three years and I have not found one that will replace my love of Smashbox Full Exposure or Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant.  The brush on Givenchy Noir Interdit is very different to the big brushes I love so I was cautious about this one but hoping that it would help get the smaller lashes both of mine tend to miss.

So About That Givenchy Noir Interdit Brush…

Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara - Hinged Brush

This brush is like nothing I have tried before.  Givenchy’s new Noir Interdit mascara features a bendable brush so you can choose the angle you want to apply mascara at.  It has spiky bristles on only one side of the brush so you apply with a zigzag motion through your lashes rather than a flick.  It promises  intensely lengthened, volumized, and defined lashes using their unique stretching formula to sweep on the ultimate lash extension effect,   I think I would like the brush better if you could lock it at different angles.  The 45° angle in my photo might work better for those short corner lashes but the brush does straight or 90° and bends to either as soon as you try to use it.

Bare lashes vs just one coat of Givenchy Noir Interdit mascara

So, it definitely does a better job of my bottom lashes than my current mascara.  But I am still not totally in love with it.  My lashes look great with just one coat of it.  The formula is a little wetter than I prefer but easy enough to wipe off some to allow quicker drying.  But the brush takes some getting used to and I stabbed myself with it once already.  I find I tend to get mascara on my upper eyelid when using it.   Maybe it just needs more getting used to with the revolutionary brush.  Like I said, I think if it would lock in between angles, I think I might like it more.

As for the price, it is Givenchy and looks great on my lashes.  But having had bad eye infections in the past, I am careful about throwing out mascaras regularly.  So $90-150 a year on mascara is a little steep.  I would probably buy it again if I could get it at Murale with a 20x points event ( they currently only carry Givenchy fragrances) but Sephora rewards are not enough to make me spend.

Want to try it out?  Pick it up at Sephora now.
