Oh how I wanted to love Throwing Shade by CANVAS Lacquer. It is my first CANVAS polish. In the run up to Indie Expo Canada, I had checked out swatches of polishes from all of the makers. I set my heart on a different blue from CANVAS then saw this thermal polish posted and changed my mind. It transitions from a pale gold to a blue with taupe-gold shimmer.
Looks great right? If I could get it to transition on a regular basis, I really would love this polish. Even if it has the opposite transition so you got blue when it was warm as I much prefer the blue colour. But the transition temperature on Throwing Shade is much lower than any of my thermals. I had my fingers in ice water for ages to get enough photos of the shift on this and it is always sandy gold on me.
After just seconds out of the water, CANVAS Throwing Shade is already transitioning back to gold. Even if I could get this gold shimmery denim blue I would be happy.
The gold in CANVAS Throwing Shade is just not that flattering on my skin tone. Maybe or those with darker skin tones it would not be so bad. But oh how I wanted that blue to work for me. I am thinking of hiding it away for winter when my tips are icy cold because who wants to wear gloves over pretty nails?
See that beautiful gold-taupe shimmer in the blue? I would happily wear that as a colour!
Despite the formula being fairly thick, CANVAS Throwing Shade needs three coats for full opacity. The original bottle and brush shots made me love this. That is what I get for taking pictures right by the air conditioner! I am not giving up on CANVAS Lacquer though, I know others loves their polishes. I will just try some non-thermals next time.
