A England - In Robe and Crown Swatches - Tennysons Romance Collection

The third shade in A England’s Tennyson’s Romance collection is the stunning In Robe and Crown.  A deep red wine polish with scattered holo, this one would work for almost all skin tones and is so beautiful in person.  I only had this one briefly while I tried out the collection but even the FedEx guy commented on it while delivering a parcel.

The Beggar Maid - King Cophetua - Painting vs Sketch

Before the painting was completed, the sketch in gouache by artist Edward Burne-Jones had the King wearing red and a red carpet on the steps leading up to him.  Whether the shade’s inspiration stems from the coloured sketch or just the general reds and royalty of the final painting, it is just gorgeous.

Named for the moment after King Cophetua sees the beggar maid and goes out in his full robes and crown to scatter coins to get the attention of the beggars.  He asks his chosen beggar maid, Penelophon, to be his bride and they live happily ever after.  Because everyone loves that fairytale happy ending.

Like the others in the Tennyson’s Romance collection, the formula on this is great.  It can be used as a one coater although a second coat deepens the colour.  The formula is thick but not so much that it is hard to work with or shows brush strokes.  Dry time is good even with thicker coats and it has a beautiful shiny finish even without top coat.
