DavidsTea Halloween Teas - 2016 Back From The Dead Halloween Coffin Teas - Swampwater, Stormy Night, Maple Sugar

You can tell when a DavidsTea collection is going to be popular because there is a lineup at the door before the store opens on release day and today was one of those days as people went mad for the Halloween collection.  I felt sorry for the lone Tea Guide in the store.  The DavidsTea Halloween release includes several teas, a colour changing mug, a Halloween themed travel mug and accessories including a bat themed infuser and halloween themed storage tins.  I picked up the Back from the Dead coffin with three teas and a bag of Witch’s Brew.

The DavidsTea Halloween Collection includes a Book of Spells with six teas or Back From The Dead with three past teas that fans loved.  This year, that includes Swampwater, Maple Sugar and Stormy Night.  Since Swampwater and Maple Sugar are available online only for 50g bags, I went for Back from the Dead.  The coffin has three tins of 30-35g of tea and costs $20.  The teas at those weights would come to around $18 so you are not overpaying too much for packaging, especially as you get three nice sized tins to store tea in.

This Halloween, a DavidsTea Halloween tea from the past rose from the grave one last time. Swampwater, made with rooibos, papaya, passion fruit and black cat sprinkles, is spooky blend worthy of any Halloween festivities!  The cats are a little strangely shaped, but hard to make cats out of sprinkles that small I guess and Swampwater brews a strange darkish green colour that is perfect for Halloween.

DavidsTea Swampwater Ingredients: Green rooibos, strawberry granules (glucose syrup, strawberries, fructose, modified starch, sodium alginate), calendula, black and orange candies (sugar, rice flour, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, corn starch, gum arabic, cellulose gum, confectioners glaze, carrageenan, soy lecithin, colour, dextrin, orange, pineapple and both natural and artificial flavours.

DavidsTea Swampwater Steeping Instructions: 1-2 perfect spoons per 16 oz mug, near boiling water (194℉ – 203℉ or 90℃ – 95℃) for 4-7 minutes

Stormy Night was one of my favourites when I first started drinking DavidsTea so I was really happy to see it back.  I actually drank the last of my stash recently and was going to finally blog it but after sitting for a while, it wasn’t the freshest for photos.  With chocolate, cinnamon, coconut, and vanilla, DavidsTea’s Stormy Night is spicy yet smooth.

DavidsTea Stormy Night (2016) Ingredients: black tea, dark chocolate (cocoa beans, sugar, cocoa butter, ground vanilla bean, ancho chilli, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, allspice, clove, chipotle chilli), cinnamon, coconut flakes and natural vanilla flavouring.

Maple Sugar is the one that I have not tried before from the Back From The Dead DavidsTea Halloween release.  Since they are headquartered in Quebec, there is a lot of maple syrup around and they had to have a tea to honour that.  With black tea, apple, cinnamon and real pieces of maple sugar, it’s a warming hug on a fall day – and a delicious taste of Quebec.

DavidsTea Maple Sugar Ingredients: Black tea, apple, cinnamon, maple syrup pieces, monk fruit, natural maple flavouring.

I was torn over which set to get since I wanted Witch’s Brew but also Swampwater so went for a 50g bag of Witch’s Brew using my Frequent Steeper rewards.  Rooibos, chocolate and orange – has to be good right?  Plus candied pieces mean sweetness for him!

This magical concoction is totally spellbinding. So how did we make it? First, we went to our tea graveyard to summon a devilishly good base of rooibos. Then we conjured up a rich handful of enchanted cocoa beans. And once the moon was at its peak, we added our secret ingredient: orange candied witch hats and black bat-shaped sprinkles that’ll have you cackling all night long. Creamy, decadent and sinfully sweet, this tea will leave you bewitched after one sip. Better hang on to your broomsticks. Something wicked this way comes…

DavidsTea Witch’s Brew Ingredients: Cocoa beans, rooibos, cocoa husk, orange and black candies (sugar, rice flour, partially hydrogenated rapeseed oil, potato starch, colour (beetroot juice concentrate, beta-carotene, iron oxide), artificial flavouring), sweet blackberry leaves, elderberry flower, safflower petas, natural and artificial flavouring

DavidsTea Witch’s Brew Steeping Instructions: 1-2 perfect spoons per 16 oz mug, near boiling water (194℉ – 203℉ or 90℃ – 95℃) for 4-7 minutes

Full reviews once I have tried them all!  In the mean time, these are the new DavidsTea Halloween items you can pick up, but shop soon, some are already out of stock online!

  1. Stormy Night sounds so perfect for this cold, crisp weather. I’m going to pick up some of it before it disappears for sure.

[…] As I mentioned last week, DavidsTea brought three teas back from the dead this year for Halloween.  The Back from the Dead teas are usually seasonal teas that were well loved.  Since two of the included teas are only available online, I imagine that the coffin displays will sell out quickly.  So you want to pick one up soon.  The DavidsTea Back from the Dead coffin includes Maple Sugar, Stormy Night and Swampwater.  Full ingredients and steeping instructions for these teas can be found in my other post.
