I love trying new polishes and noticed that Sarah from Workaday Beauty had posted several manicures with Avon polishes recently.  Avon isn’t the first brand you think of when you are buying polish but Sarah had mentioned the great quality so I was excited to try some out.  While I have some of the Gel Finish polishes she recommended, I also got this Nailed It set of Precious Petals mini polishes from Mark. by Avon.

The Precious Petals set includes two mini bottles of complementing polishes in Steel Magnolia and Green Thumb.  Steel Magnolia is a great gunmetal silver, metallic but slightly matte while the almost minty Green Thumb has a semi matte sheen look with a slight shimmer.  Both have great coverage but needed a second coat.  Like most metallics, Steel Magnolia is prone to brush strokes so let the first coat dry before your second one.

Since they are just made to be worn together, I mixed them up with Green Thumb on my baby and pointer fingers, Steel Magnolia on my thumb and ring finger.  Then I mixed it up on my middle finger with a base of Green Thumb and using nail guides, added stripes in Steel Magnolia.

As they have a semi matte finish, I didn’t want to ruin it with a shiny or completely matte top coat so it chipped after just a day, although I was painting and sanding so most polishes would have suffered the same fate.  Although tiny bottles, the Precious Petals set has enough polish for 10 manicures per bottle which is pretty decent for $11 for the set.

I also tried a soft gradient using a base of Green Thumb and then sponged on Steel Magnolia is various directions.  This time, I tried Essence’s Satin Matte top coat which kept it looking great for three or four days before I removed it.

Avon Precious Petals Collection

Make sure your nails compliment the rest of your makeup with the rest of the Precious Petals collection.  They have a matching All Time Eye longwear eyeshadow duo in Waterlily and Dew Drop and complimenting plumping glosses in Orchid or Peony.  You can even get a hair clip to match your nails!

  1. They are truly gorgeous together, I love the nail art looks you did!

  2. I have oogled Mark stuff for years.

  3. I found the application of these polishes to be VERY challenging and one of the worst formulas I have ever used in a long time. It was so chunky and polish would migrate if I went over an area. The colours are so pretty though that even though I got my gradient mani together I had to give them away.

    1. Really? I didn’t find them that difficult to use. They are not the smoothest formula and I did have to wait for the first coat to completely dry before the second.

  4. I love what you did with these! I won’t be getting anything from Avon though since they started testing on animals again. Can’t do it.
