Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Pack Review

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review Box

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review Box

I am still trying to use up some of my teas to make space for more and this Twinings Herbal Tea variety pack has been sitting unopened for a while.  It came as part of a gift basket at Christmas and since I didn’t buy it, I am not sure why it counts towards what I have to drink before I can buy more.  Every so often, he waves the box at me saying “see you don’t need more tea, you haven’t even opened this one yet”.

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review

You get twenty individually wrapped tea bags, five of each of the four included varieties for under $5.  The Twinings Herbal Tea variety pack includes Honeybush, Mandarin & Orange, Goodnight Blend, Lemon & Ginger and Pure Camomile.  Surprisingly, the order on the box was my preference for the teas too.

Twinings Honeybush, Mandarin & Orange

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review - Honeybush Mandarin Orange Tea

Twinings Honeybush, Mandarin and Orange was by far my favourite of the teas.  It was sweet and smooth but not overly sweet and doesn’t suffer from that fake orange taste of many sweeter orange teas.  The sweetness of the honeybush is a nice touch and while I personally would not run out and buy a box, he really enjoyed it which is a surprise.  I can see reaching for it at meetings etc where they often have a very limited selection of teas as it is definitely drinkable.

Twinings Goodnight Blend

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review - Goodnight Blend Tea

I am not the hugest fan of camomile teas and only drink it when in a blend with other teas so I was quite surprised that I liked Twinings Goodnight  Blend.  I prefer my mint teas to be super minty but this had a nice calming blend of mint, lemongrass and camomile.  None of them were overly present in the tea.  The citrus helps with the mint for those who are not a fan of mint teas.  It reminds me a lot of the type of tea you would get at a spa. Not sure why they felt the need to add spearmint flavouring when it has spearmint in it, the tea is otherwise quite natural.

Twinings Ginger & Lemon

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review - Lemon Ginger Tea

I am a big fan of ginger teas when I am feeling unwell and love lemon in hot water first thing in the morning so had high hopes for Twinings Lemon & Ginger tea.  Sadly, I was disappointed.  Compared to many ginger teas, it is not as bitter which is great for those who want it but hate ginger.  The lemon is there but not enough tang for me.  Don’t get me wrong, it is not bad for a bagged tea, and if you feel sick enough to go looking for a ginger tea, you will probably appreciate the bagged variety but since I have a tart lemon and a pure ginger tea sitting there, I would probably mix my own.

Twinings Pure Camomile

Twinings Herbal Tea Variety Review - Pure Camomile Tea

I am never going to  a camomile fan, I just can’t bring myself to like it despite the calming benefits.  Personally, if I am drinking it and a Twinings variety, I will reach for their Camomile, Honey and Vanilla tea instead.  Twinings Pure Camomile was just kind of weak and floral warm water tasting.  I thought I had tried a mint camomile tea from Twinings and while I can find pictures of it online, it is not listed from Twinings Canada so I either drank it in England or they don’t make it anymore.

Overall, they are decent for herbal bagged teas and for someone looking to expand their tea collection but are not quite into the loose tea craze, they are drinkable, readily available and affordable.  Twinings was my preferred tea when I started broadening my tea horizons back in England, but I am a little jealous of their flavours and cuter packaging there.
