Laneige Water Sleeping Mask Review

Korean beauty is really popular right now, and Laneige is one of the better known brands, having made its way into North American Sephora stores and even Target in the US, and being part of the better known AmorePacific Corp, which many of us beauty lovers will be familiar with through Etude House etc.  I recently had the chance to try out Laneige Water Sleeping Mask as an influenster member.  So is it worth the hype?

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask Claims

Recharge dehydrated skin overnight. This unique mask is formulated with highly concentrated ionized mineral water and ceramides to deliver intense doses of moisture to stressed, parched skin. Aromatic Sleepscent – orange flower, rose, and sandalwood—relaxes and rejuvenates while apricot and chestnut extracts exfoliate, brighten, and purify fatigued skin. The result: skin looks and feels radiant, refreshed, and soft. Wake up to soft, glowing skin.

After a recent bad reaction to what I can only assume is the fragrance in another product, I will start by saying that Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is fairly heavily scented.  I had no reaction to it, but if you have sensitive skin, or are generally sensitive to fragrances, it may be an issue.  I don’t find the scent particularly relaxing, but not offensive either.  Sort of a light floral (but not old lady floral) mixed with something.  I can see why others do like it.

While I have an oily t-zone, I have really dry areas on my face too, so I love night products for that extra punch of hydration you can’t get with daytime products you are wearing under makeup.  I do like Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, even in comparison to the other night products I have used for several reasons.

It has a light gel texture that absorbs quickly.  So many night time products feel heavy on your skin, and many leave me with clogged pores and breakouts.  Laneige Water Sleeping Mask seems effective at adding moisture without a layer of cream sitting on top of your face for hours, so you can apply it as you are getting ready to go to bed, which is usually when I remember.  I hate going to bed feeling the product sink into my pillow instead of my face.  It also stays put and doesn’t melt against the heat of your skin.  No matter how far away from my eyes I put night creams, I often feel that telltale sting later as some leaks down into my eye area.

It does come in a jar rather than a pump, which means it is likely to lose moisture and open to bacteria, but they do include a small spatula to reduce this risk.  Apart from the fragrance, the jar packaging is the only really bad thing I can say about it.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask did leave my skin feeling soft, supple and well moisturized.  I have other night masks that do too, but Laneige does this without the tackyness I find with most of them and no breakouts, even as my skin was getting used to it.

  1. This is so interesting, I’ve never tried a sleeping mask. I guess it’s sort of like a night cream? Glad you had a good reaction to this one with no breakouts! Though I dislike it when brands heavily scent their skincare products :/

Laneige’s is more supposed to seal the moisture in than be a regular night cream, you do your usual night routine then this on top. That is why they can be so tacky.
I have a green tea one from somewhere too that is meant to settle your skin overnight while not drying.
As far as the scent, they push the scent, even saying take a few seconds to smell the SleepScent and relax, I could do without it though

[…] Laneige Sleep Mask: The light gel texture absorbs quickly.  I find many night products melt into my eyes over time so absorbing quickly helps.  It also leaves my skin super soft without adding extra oil to my tzone so I wake up looking refreshed and don’t have to scrub my oily patches.  Full review here.
