CND may be known for their beautiful long lasting Shellac polishes and Vinylux weeklong wear but I recently tried out their Creative Play polish in Crimson Like It Hot, base coat and top coat to see how it stacked up.

Creative Play polishes are 7-Free and come in 80 shades, quite the range for a fairly new launch but it means you can get similar shades to your Shellac and Vinylux finishes for less.  They come in cream, metallic, pearl, satin, shimmer, holographic glitter, multi-colour glitter, micro glitter, metallic glitter and transformer finishes.

I tried out CND Creative Play in Crimson Like It Hot which is a red pearl finish with golden flecks.  The Creative Play line promise Advanced brush designed with nearly 400 bristle ends to allow for precision and smooth application.  I have a personal preference for wide brushes but it covers well while still being precise at the edges.

I am not sure if it is the shade of polish or the brush, but it did pull the first layer a bit so if you try it out, let the first coat dry properly before adding a second coat.

Sadly, the flecks are much more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail.  You can see the beautiful gold in the bottle here but they just disappear on the nail.  In bright light, you can see the flecks, but not the golden colour.  I have tried a shimmer shade from the Creative Play range and it matched the bottle perfectly so I think it is just the CND Crimson Like It Hot shade.

But there are lots to choose from across the various finishes!

The CND Creative Play Base Coat is great.  It has a sheer nude colour that evens the colour of your nail making visible nail line a little less noticeable on those more sheer polishes.  It dried quickly and without any bubbles and is thin enough that it doesn’t add bulk but substantial enough to protect your nails.

Personally, I prefer the Vinylux Weeklong Wear Top Coat to the Creative Play Top Coat but there was nothing particularly wrong with it, just personal preference and the Vinylux is a bit thicker so drags less.  As you can see, the bottle of top coat is slightly tinged with red.  Probably because I rush my manicures more than the actual polish.

I rarely wear the same polish for more than 2-3 days so I can’t say how long this lasted as I took it off after two full days but it was wearing well with no major tip wear or chips. The polish already looked duller which I don’t find with Vinylux but I would typically top up a manicure with a fresh coat of top coat if I was wearing it all week anyway.

Since Creative Play is meant to be more consumer friendly for at home manicures, it is a bit easier to find than Vinylux and you can pick up Creative Shade polishes at Trade Secrets or Nail Polish Canada as well as select other retailers.
