How To Use TweetDeck For Twitter Parties

I love using tweetdeck for twitter parties, it makes it so much easier than following in twitter as you can see the questions from the moderators/hosts separately and make sure you don’t miss anything important.

Tweetdeck can be a little daunting when you first open it, I close my messages and activity and leave my feed and my own tweets (which I move over to hide if I need lots of tabs) then click the + button and add tabs for the hashtag (click the search button) and hosts/moderators (click the user button and search using their @ name).  Once the party starts, I drag the tab for the person asking questions over so it is beside the hashtag tab to make it easier to follow without scrolling.

• # Party Hashtag
• @name of person asking questions
• @name of person announcing prizes
• @names of other hosts/moderators

 

Make sure you have followed all of the hosts/moderators or you may be disqualified from winning.  Tweetdeck does not autotag your posts with hashtags so it is a good idea to copy/paste the tags so you can easily add them on each tweet.

Some tips for twitter parties:

• Make sure you follow the hosts and moderators, you could be disqualified from prizes if you don’t
• Many twitter parties choose from the RSVP list using random.org – so don’t feel that you have to reply too much, just answer the questions and reply to anything you find interesting.  Too many tweets in a short time can get your account temporarily blocked.
• It isn’t always needed, but get into the habit of replying with A1, A2 etc – it makes it easier for  the moderator to ensure you answered.
• If you can’t stay for the whole hour, attend anyway, you might get lucky in the time you are there.
• Add your location in twitter, even if you just put Canada.  Moderators need to verify eligibility for giveaways.
• Tweetdeck is my preferred method as I can follow everything but you can also use twubs or just open the hashtag in twitter.
